Area Attractions/ Entertainment

Middleborough is nestled on the South Shore, just miles from Boston and Cape Cod. The ideal location is also a quick shot to New Bedford, Providence, Rhode Island, and on Route 44 to Plymouth. Needless to say, there is no shortage of interesting and exciting things to see and do in this area.
Middleborough is known as the “cranberry capital of the world,” because it is located in one of the largest cranberry-growing regions. It is the second largest town by land area in Massachusetts (spanning 68 square miles), yet it maintains its charming, old-town atmosphere. A rich history balanced out by modern conveniences makes Middleborough the perfect place to live the life you have earned.

Here are a few of the great local attractions in the Middleborough area:
Take the Cranberry Harvest Trail along cranberry bogs and farms, such as Flax Pond Farms, with its century-old building, antique equipment, and gift shop. Also don’t miss Spring Rain Farm, 112 acres where you can pick your own strawberries.
Visit Nemasket River, with its history of dams and mills, including the still-standing Oliver Mill Park. Have a picnic, look at the restored stonework, and go fishing. Watch herring migrate in the spring. In fact, Nemasket is the largest home to alewife on the eastern seaboard. The river flows 11 miles, and the water is crisp and clear.

If you crave more nature, Pratt Farm Conservation and Recreation Area is bursting with chances to see wildlife. Enjoy fields, ponds, and forest. Hike through cranberry country, and take in the open space.

History buffs will enjoy the Middleborough Historic Museum’s local artifacts and the Waterville Schoolhouse, a wooden schoolhouse that survives today as a private home. Also don’t miss the Victorian-style town hall and the Greek revival-style library.

If you’re looking for good shopping, the Silver City Galleria Mall is not far away in Taunton. This mall boasts 125 specialty and brand-name stores, a movie theater, a large food court, and other dining options.

Middleborough used to be known as the "shoe capital of the world," and it’s still home to the Alden Shoe Company, one of the last remaining shoe manufacturers in the country.

The Middleborough Public Library organizes regular events that span from a stitching group and luncheons to computer classes and book clubs.

One fun summer tradition in Middleborough is a popular block party known as Krazy Days.

Buy local fruits and veggies at Plato’s Harvest, a small, family-run, 3-acre organic farm in Middleboro. You can find Plato’s Harvest at two farmer’s markets.
