On Thursday, August 29, 2024, members of the Hometown America Chicago team came together for a day of service at the Chicago Food Depository. This event was part of Hometown America’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, marking the company’s 10th Service Day of the year.
The team’s task for the day was “apple duty,” where they sorted, bagged, crated, and stacked an impressive 8,085 pounds of apples—equivalent to 210 cases or 4 full pallets. These apples were delivered to residents in need of food assistance in the Chicago area, helping to create 6,738 nutritious meals for the community.
What began as a modest idea to gather a few volunteers to do some work in their community grew to a significant nationwide initiative. Throughout 2024, Hometown America organized 10 Service Days, involving teams from across the country, all united in their mission to support local communities.
A special thank you goes out to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Councilmembers—Kelsey Cross, Keri Duff, Stanton Markowitz, Stephanie Perello, and Janet Randle—who played a crucial role in identifying organizations, coordinating logistics, and ensuring that each Service Day ran smoothly. Their hard work and dedication exemplify Hometown America’s core values of service, accountability, and empowerment.
