Dear Residents,

We are excited to see the COVID-19 numbers start to drop in Florida, but as long as it exists with no true cure or vaccination, we will continue to take the lead from federal, state and, local officials, while considering our ability to safely staff and clean the amenities. The COVID-19 task force at Hometown America continues to meet twice weekly, reviewing any changes in recommendations from CDC or local officials while reviewing what protocol we may need to update or change to keep you safe while continuing to provide an active lifestyle you can enjoy. We are all probably more excited for this holiday season than any before! Something to look forward to and celebrate. We are already starting to plan on how we con celebrate in a safe environment. Happy Fall Y’all!

Yard Maintenance

We have important updates regarding some of our lawn care services, as well as reminders for proper yard waste disposal. Keep reading to learn more.

Yard Maintenance

cartoon man mowing lawn

Over the last few months, some of the lawn care businesses are no longer providing services for our community. These services did not give notice that they were leaving, and we have been providing notices for homes whose yards seem to require care. If you are currently not living in your home but have someone watching it for you and usually receive lawn services, we recommend you ask them to check for a notice in the event you are one of these affected homes.

If you do have someone that does your trimming, please explain to them they need to put the trimmings out no earlier than Thursday morning before yard waste pick-up. As a reminder, this is the same procedure for bulk pick up items. There is a calendar of pick-up schedules on TWRTimes if you ever need a reminder. Thank you for keeping our community looking great!

Restaurant Review

If you’re looking for a great place to eat, you have to try "Wings and Things" in Avon Park. We had heard nothing but great things about this new-to-the-area restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, and they were fairly busy with people sitting and enjoying their food, and others waiting to pick up take out. We were greeted with a smiling face from the very nice young lady behind the counter and she answered all of our questions regarding their menu.

They have a large variety of yummy sounding items available, such as wings in 15 different sauces, ribs, turkey legs, corn fritters, mac and cheese, fried okra, and so much more. We opted for the garlic parmesan wings, with a side of baked beans and mac and cheese. We got our meals to go, and the aroma in the car on the way home was unbelievable. We ate every last bit of our lunch, and wished we had ordered their banana pudding for dessert.

As we enjoyed the lunch so much, we went back late Sunday afternoon to try the ribs and corn fritters - we were not disappointed. The ribs were fall off the bone tender paired with their honey BBQ sauce, and the corn fritters were amazing. We would have gotten the Banana Pudding we both wanted, but they were sold out. They make them up daily, so we now know we have to get there early if we want to try this very popular dessert.

"Wings and Things" is located North of Tanglewood and the address is: 201 US-27 S. in Avon Park. Their hours are 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. and if you want to call in your order the phone number is: (863) 864-9754. This is truly a local restaurant that you will want to try. We know we will be frequent customers, and encourage you to give them a try!

Foster Parenting: Pet Edition

Have you considered rescuing a pet but can’t fully commit just yet? Well, we have the perfect solution for you! Becoming a foster parent comes with an endless list of benefits for you and the animals you bring into your home - so what are you waiting for?

What are the benefits of putting animals in foster homes rather than in shelters? Well, there are plenty. First up, it can increase a pet’s chance of finding their fur-ever home. As foster parents open their homes and hearts to these little guys and gals, they have a better understanding of the animal’s personality, which helps match them with the right home. It also teaches the animals social skills and basic house training, which they often don’t get in shelters, leading to an easier transition . Not to mention, keeping pets out of shelters prevents overcrowding, animal neglect, and gives that pet an invaluable taste of a loving home.

What are the benefits for you? First of all, it’s temporary. This acts as a trial run if you’re debating bringing a permanent furry family member into your home. You can also choose exactly what kind of pet you want to foster, from breed to personality, and many shelters will help match you with the right pet for your lifestyle. If you have other pets in the home, it’s a great way to socialize them to new animals.

Opening your home, and your heart, to an animal in need is a priceless experience. If you’re ready to take the plunge, check out this article to learn how you can be the best foster parent. Who knows, you might even find them so perfect you just have to adopt them!

*Before bringing any animal into your home, please make sure to check with your community’s guidelines on pets.
