We’ve been busy compiling information to help protect your house during the stormy weather. Hurricane preparedness packets are available for all residents at the office. Each packet contains a wealth of info that you can reference if faced with mandatory evacuation and subsequent return to your home. Please stop by and pick one up.
Thank you to all the homeowners who’ve been improving their homes and lots. I’ve seen many residents outside painting and installing attractive shrubbery and flowers. A little facelift goes a long way. This month, we would like to recognize Lynn Engelhardt. She moved to Fairways with her husband, Mike, 20 years ago from a small town outside of Buffalo, New York to be closer to their family. Read on to learn more about Lynn and Mike.
This month, we would like to recognize Lynn Engelhardt. Lynn and her husband Mike moved to Fairways 20 years ago from the small town of Eden, located just outside Buffalo, New York. The Engelhardt’s moved to Florida to be closer to their children and grandchildren. What they didn’t expect was to fall in love with Fairways and call it home.
When asked Lynn what she loved most about the community, without a moment’s hesitation she replied, “The people.” Lynn and Mike have many friends here, including a group that they go out to dinner with every Friday.
Lynn’s favorite amenity at Fairways is the newly renovated Masters Clubhouse. “The Masters is so nice now, compared to what it used to be. I enjoy going there so much more.”
Lynn and Mike are in charge of running BINGO every Wednesday night and have been doing so since 2003. Lynn said, “It is much nicer to have BINGO at the Masters. With all of the TVs, it’s easier for everyone to play.”
Her two favorite activities are Palette Pals painting class and, of course, being the Editor of The Eagle newspaper, at which she has worked diligently since 2005. She started as an administrator, and when the publisher wanted The Eagle to go digital, no one volunteered to learn the programing, except for Lynn. She learned the programming and has truly shined in her position as Editor.
Lynn is a giving person. She gives her time and her talents to everyone at Fairways. Thank you, Lynn, for everything you do each and every day to help our community, friends, and neighbors.

Preparing for a Hurricane
It can feel weird to plan for a hypothetical disaster, but it’s worth it to be prepared. In the event the worst happens, you’ll be glad you prepared. These simple tips can ease your mind in the event of a hurricane and make you feel ready for the storm.
1. Get a waterproof and fireproof safe. Keep your valuable and important documents secure from wind damage or flood waters. A safe is a worthwhile investment to keep your documents and valuables protected through any emergency.
2. Know your evacuation route. If it comes down to evacuating, you’re going to want to know where you’re going beforehand. Plan where you would go in the event of an evacuation and what route you would take. Save the details in your smartphone.
3. Document your valuables and property. Make a list of your valuables and their approximate worth. Take photos of them and your entire home. Remember your porch and cars, too. Keep these on your smartphone and also keep a printed copy in your safe or a safety deposit box. Documentation will be important for insurance purposes.
4. Make a preparedness kit. Before the season starts, gather necessities in case you lose power or need to leave. Stock up on non-perishables and water bottles. Be sure you have flashlights, extra batteries, cash, sneakers, and first aid supplies.
5. Sign up for emergency alerts. Learn what your city or neighborhood’s emergency alert system is and sign up for it. Most emergency systems will go through your smartphone or email.
