Priscilla’s Corner

The rain is finally here and the ponds are filling up. The wildlife and flowers are all happy. There are many exciting things happening at Fairways!

During the rainy season, we may have issues with the weekly mowing. If the mowing crew is rained out the day they usually mow your street, don’t worry! They will be back to mow in the following days.

I want to thank those residents who have been emailing me with helpful suggestions about problem areas. Your input helps our staff stay on top of these situations. Please keep bringing it to our attention by emailing pherrick@hometownamerica.com or drop off a note to us.

I also want to thank the following residents for improving their homes and home sites. I have seen many residents painting and power washing their home sites. Activities Corner

We have had some fun this summer in between all the rain. In May, we had our Memorial Day Pool party. We had so much fun playing games in the pool and plenty of food….oh, all the food. Residents enjoyed live music provided by Jimmy Rivas. There was a moment of silence to remember our fallen heroes.

Our Employee Picnic was on June 22, and included Fairways and Palm Valley. We worked up an appetite playing Pickleball, then went and cooled off in the Masters while eating some Smoky Bones for lunch. Everyone walked away with full stomachs. After lunch we played some Minute To Win It games.

In August there will be a Paint Your Own Pottery Night. The exact date and time is still to be determined, along with our monthly movie night.

Memorial Day Pool Party

Although it was a hot day, residents enjoyed the Memorial Day pool party sponsored by Hometown America. There was music by Jimmy Rivas, fun games, hot dogs and hamburgers, and visiting friends.

We are planning to have two big musical events in the fall and winter with a disco theme, so dig out your old disco clothes, don your polyester, and polish your platform shoes. There will be more information as we confirm the dates of these two big events. Stay tuned!

Movie Night

We hope you all enjoyed the movie “Lion”! Mark your calendars for the next few movie nights. All movies are shown at 7 p.m. in the Masters Clubhouse.

• July 27 ‒ "Hidden Figures" This is a brilliant movie about our young space program and the rush to the moon. It follows three female minds that worked day and night alongside engineers to help launch us forward into space.
• August 27 – "Dirty Dancing" Watch the late Patrick Swayze dance the night away in one of the most famous coming of age stories in cinema history. The Catskills have never looked so good!
• September 28 – "Florence Foster Jenkins" Enjoy this comedy based on the true story of a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice.

Disco Fever

2017 is the year to get your groove back and bust out your old Disco moves.

In September, we will boogie-woogie and shake our grove thing to our tribute to ABBA and the 70's with the band ABBA Salutely playing at The Masters on the 22nd. The show starts at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30.

Make sure you dig out those bellbottom jeans with the patchwork on them, dust off your platform shoes, add on some blue eye shadow, get your shiny jump suit, and make some big bushy hair. We will be having a costume contest and the best-dressed will win a prize.

There will also be a KC and the Sunshine tribute band coming in November. More information will be released as the event gets closer.

Fall Gardening Checklist

As summer winds down, it’s time to prep your garden for cooler weather. Learn how to keep your garden healthy and happy as we shift gears into a new season.

The first step is preparing your lawn for the changing weather. For those of you in cooler climates, give your grass a healthy dose of high-potassium fertilizer. This will help your lawn persevere through those chilly nights. Lawns in warmer climates should receive a preventive herbicide to minimize weeds that can fester during the fall.

The next step is giving your garden a fresh start for fall. Make sure to pull all old plants, and add them to your compost pile. Then, replenish your soil by combining this compost with organic fertilizer.

Most importantly, it’s time to plant fruits and veggies that thrive in cooler conditions. Try planting turnips, mustard greens, lettuces, collards, or kale. Not only will these veggies flourish in the fall, they can serve as star ingredients for a variety of meals. Other veggie options include carrots, beets, and broccoli!

New Card System

We are almost finished working on the card access system.

Residents will be informed when to come in to the office and pick up their two access cards. We will do this by lot number so we don’t have a mad rush and too many residents waiting in the office for cards.

Each home will be assigned a maximum of two access cards, one per person. These cards will be assigned to the individual only and will be removed from the system if lost or stolen. Replacement cards will cost $50 per card, so please keep them in a safe place.

Once all the cards have been distributed we will activate the card entry system.

Not only does a good night’s sleep benefit your health, it can also boost your happiness. Sleep’s restorative powers can improve both your mental and emotional state – so make sure to catch enough z’s. Adults are recommended to get between 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
