April 2020

Across the country, families are struggling with food insecurity and wondering how to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, University Lakes, a Hometown America community in Miami, teamed up with the Miami-Dade Commissioner to coordinate a “drive-through” food drive to foster a sense of community while encouraging families to lend a had to their fellow neighbors. Through the coordinated efforts of the County Commissioner’s office, the Hammock Police Department and the Hometown America team, over 1,000 University Lakes residents received two bags of food each, including meat, fruits and vegetables.
