    Area Attractions/ Entertainment

Oviedo is a wonderful place to live -- and don’t just take our word for it. The city has a long list of accolades, including the Best Place to Live from CNN Money Magazine in 2009; a Top 100 City for three consecutive years in 2009, 2010 and 2011 from Relocate America; and one of the top 10 Best Towns for Families in 2011 from Family Circle Magazine. In addition, the “twin cities” of Oviedo and Winter Springs were jointly named as the Best Place to Live in Central Florida in 2008 from the Orlando Sentinel.

And it’s no wonder. Oviedo is welcoming, bustling and growing. It’s conveniently located just 10 miles from downtown Orlando, with easy access to all of the area’s famous attractions. There is no shortage of entertainment around Oviedo.

Here are a few other local attractions that have helped earn this city its reputation as a great place to call home:

    * Like shopping? Hit up the 95 stores at the Oviedo Marketplace.
    * Oviedo has easy access to great medical facilities and quality health care providers.
    * There are many ways to connect to nature in Oviedo, such as the Econ River Wilderness Area, 240 acres of woodlands with three miles of trails ideal for hiking, photography, bird-watching and riding horses. Or if you feel like a picnic in the park, visit Round Lake Park, and walk along its boardwalk and pier.
    * Nearby, you can visit the 625-acre Chuluota Wilderness Area -- or better yet, the 5,048-acre Little Big Econ State Forest, where you can fish, hunt, hike, bike, ride horses, picnic and even canoe.
    * While you’re outside, set up an airboat tour of Lake Jessup, the home of the most alligators of any lake in North America!
    * This area is bursting with unique wildlife, such as the golden mouse and the great horned owl.
    * For less rare wildlife -- but no less amusing -- Oviedo is known for the chickens that roam the downtown area. Look out for traffic stops to let the large groups of chickens pass.
    * Art-lovers will enjoy the Artistic Hand Art Gallery in downtown.
    * Oviedo and the surrounding area hosts a variety of exciting events, including the Great Day in the County event, with more than 300 vendor booths. Other popular events are A Taste of Oviedo, Whale of a Sale, Oktoberfest, and the Winter Springs Festival of the Arts.
    * The GFWC Oviedo Women’s Club, organized in 1906, organizes the Great Day in the Country Arts and Crafts Festival, the largest fest in the city with 65,000 attendees and more than 350 booths.
